Here's Why I Went Dairy Free...Could It Be Right For You?

I LOVE cheese and ice cream!!! Are you jumping up and down screaming, “ME TOO!”? Don't lie!

Who doesn’t love those things? Cheese and ice cream were both usually heavily involved in my weekly binge eating sessions.

But a couple years ago, I decided to try the whole dairy free thing. It has had such a positive impact on how I feel that I will most likely never be eating cheese or ice cream again…at least not the kind made from milk that we all know and love (keep reading for more on healthier versions of these things ;)).

I promise I’m not going to preach about how dairy is the devil and you should never eat a piece of cheese again in your life! I just want to share a little bit about my dairy free lifestyle the past couple of years and some reasons why you may want to consider trying it for yourself!

Why I Switched to a Dairy Free Lifestyle!

I kept hearing about this dairy free thing and just thought it was another fad diet. I automatically thought…how the heck do people go through life without ranch dressing, ice cream, and pounds of cheese on their pizza!

Well first of all, I started to realize that the people who are doing it right use healthier dairy free versions that are actually pretty amazing!

Second, I kept finding more and more research that linked dairy products to negative health effects. So that also made me want to give it a shot because I want to treat my body that best that I can! Here are a few quick examples…

  • Dairy products contain a significant amount of cholesterol and saturated fats which can lead to heart problems.
  • They are filled with synthetic hormones, pesticides, and other toxins that are harmful to your body.
  • Studies show that dairy products have little to no benefits for your bones as many people claim.
  • Dairy products caused soooo many people skin problems and digestive issues.
  • They may be causing stomach pain or make it difficult to lose weight.

So like I said before, this is why I decided to try out a dairy free lifestyle. Also, because I was experiencing a ton of bloating and digestive issues and couldn’t figure out why.

I actually thought it was normal until I cut dairy from my eating habits and saw some HUGE improvements!

Common Side Effects From Dairy Products!

If you’re dealing with things like…

  • Bloating
  • Stomach pain
  • Difficulty losing weight
  • Poor skin health
  • Other allergy symptoms

…it may possibly be caused by the dairy products that you consume every day.

If you’re battling some of those symptoms like I was and you’re not sure why, you may want to at least try going dairy free for a couple of weeks just to see how you feel! You may be pleasantly surprised.

And if you’re thinking to yourself, there’s no way I can live without cheese! I said the exact same thing. You just have to find healthy dairy free alternatives for the things you love.

I bet you’ll be surprised at how delicious some of them really are. I can honestly say I don’t even miss cheese now that I have found some tasty substitutes!

Healthy (and Tasty) Dairy Free Versions of Your Favorite Foods!

Here are just a couple examples of dairy free alternatives that I use on a regular basis…

For milk I typically go for coconut, cashew, or almond milk! These are not quite as thick as the whole or 2% milk you may be used to drinking but they actually taste much better in my opinion!

The best dairy free options for ice cream in my opinion are, Halotop Creamery Dairy Free and So Delicious Dairy Free.

As for dairy free cheese, I usually substitute with avocado, nutritional yeast, or nut cheese.

All of these things can be found at most grocery stores if you keep an eye out! And if not you can pretty much order anything you want online these days!

So like I said…my suggestion is to use these substitutions and try the dairy free lifestyle out for just two weeks and see how you feel! Don’t be surprised if you feel big improvements and you end up cutting dairy out for good.

I had no intentions on doing it permanently but I felt so much better that I didn’t even want regular cheese and ice cream any more because I realized it was making me SUPER bloated feel like crap!
