Healthy Cookout Recipe: Black Bean Burgers & Sweet Potato Fries!

Yay, Cookout....Oh No, Temptations!

Is that how you feel anytime you get invited to a cookout or summer party? I know that used to be me because I'd be excited to go have a good time but instantly feel anxiety start to build as I thought about all the tempting food I'd have to pass up because I was "dieting".
No need to get stressed out my friend! You just gotta plan ahead.
If you know there's not going to be anything healthy or nutritious to pick from then you gotta take it upon yourself!
Time to find an awesome cookout favorite that tastes awesome, fills up your belly, and fills you with lots of nutrients! Because that's the secret to staying on track and reaching those long term goals.

And before you say you that you don't like bean burgers, just hold on a second because you've never tried these! This ain't your normal frozen bean or veggie burger out of the box at Walmart.
These things are AMAZING!
My husband said "Don't make extra for me, I don't really like bean burgers."....well guess what, he ate 4 of them last night!
So just trust me and give these babies a shot. You won't regret it...

  • 2 cans organic black beans
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1/2 cup oat flour (or any other gluten free flour)
  • 1 chia egg
  • 2 avocado
  • 3 large sweet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons organic coconut aminos
  • pink himalayan sea salt


  • Bake the black beans for 15 minutes at 325 degrees.
  • Chop sweet potatoes into fries.
  • Sautee chopped onion & garlic in coconut oil on medium heat for 10 minutes.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of chia seeds to 3 tablespoons of water and let set in fridge for 10 minutes to make chia egg.
  • Smash black beans in a mixing bowl then add garlic, onion, oat flour, chia egg, coconut aminos, and salt then mix.
  • Form ingredients into patties and bake at 350 for 10 minutes then flip and bake for another 10 minutes. Or grill!
  • Bake sweet potato fries on a baking sheets at the same time. About 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
  • Top your burgers with some sliced or mashed avocado and enjoy with a side or delicious sweet potato fries!
