13 Obvious Signs of Poor Gut Health and How to Fix It

If you deal with one or more of these problems, it could be linked to poor gut health! And believe me, you’re not alone! So many people deal with poor gut health, myself included. But don’t worry…there are lots of natural ways to improve your gut health and ultimately fight these issues off!

So I know the whole healthy gut topic might sound scary and confusing, but it’s really not so bad. I have learned a lot about improving gut health through my own struggles with stress, anxiety, acne, and frequent sickness and here’s how I like to think of it…the main goal is to increase the amount of healthy bacteria in your gut!

Your gut is like the hub for your body! It connects to all other systems of your body and about 60-80% of your immune system lives there! So when it’s lacking good bacteria or has too much bad bacteria, it can throw a lot of other things outta whack!

I have (and still am) made lots of changes to my healthy lifestyle in attempt to improve my gut health and heal all the damage that I’ve done to my body, naturally! I have to tell you, the changes that I have made are making a huge difference in my energy levels, skin health, sugar cravings, and digestive health!

If you are experiencing any of the issues I mentioned above, here are some things you can try that are great for improving gut health!

4 Ways to Improve Your Gut Health & Feel GOOD Again!

There’s nothing crazy here! First I suggest limiting some of the foods that cause inflammation and poor gut health. Things like dairy, gluten, soy, caffeine, alcohol, and sugar. Listen, I know just cutting all these things from your diet is a stretch so start by cutting back on some of these things!

Cutting back on some of these foods that cause gut irritation along with adding these 4 simple steps will have your gut smiling in to time!

1. My old friend apple cider vinegar (ACV)!

I’m gonna warn you right now that this stuff is POTENT…but it is so good for your gut health! I’m not gonna get all scientifical on ya but the what you need to know is that it’s going to help increase your beneficial gut bacteria levels!

And make sure you get the ACV with ‘the Mother’ which simply means it contains good bacteria. Also, make sure the bottle says Raw and Unfiltered! Bragg’s is one of the more popular brands you can find on Amazon or in your local grocery store.

I try my best to take two a day. It’s tough because girl this stuff just tastes bad! I’ve found the best way to get it down is to just take it like a shot and chase it with a big glass of water. Oh and don’t take it on an empty stomach! You’ll be sorry!

The benefits outweigh the bad taste so you just have to remember that your healing your gut and toss it back!

2. Drink Kombucha!

What is Kombucha you say? It is a drink of Chinese origins that consists of a mixture of different tea and sugar which is fermented by a colony of bacteria and yeast. Kombucha is great for restoring that beneficial gut bacteria and getting you back to the top of your game! It helps to boost immunity, aids in digestion and weight loss, and supports heart health just to name a few!

I usually drink about 4 per week. They can get a little pricey but there really isn’t any better investment than your own health and wellbeing in my opinion!

The cheapest I have found them is a 6 pack for $24 at Sam’s Club or Giant Eagle and Whole Foods usually run 2 for $6. Or you can buy it right on Amazon for a pretty decent price too!

3. Take a good probiotic supplement!

This is one supplement I take consistently to help me maintain that healthy balance of good bacteria over bad bacteria in my gut!

Probiotics actually contain live microorganisms that fight to maintain a healthy digestive and immune system. As a results, your body with have a greater ability to absorb nutrients and fight infection.

4. Incorporate bone broth into your diet!

If you ever watch my Instagram stories, you probably see me eating bone broth pretty often! It’s another one of those things that are great for healing the damage we cause to our guts with the stress of daily life and the crappy processed foods that we eat!

Not to mention that bone broth soup is delicious!

I make organic bone broth soup (here’s the recipe) all the time and I use Dr. Axe’s bone broth protein powderas well. Bone broth helps to restore strength in the gut lining and helps the growth of that good bacteria we keep talking about.


So as you can see, having a healthy gut is super important to the function of almost every system in your body! If you want to feel energized, reduce stress/anxiety, boost your immune system, clear your skin, loss weight, and just feel better every day, then you need to make this a priority in your life.
